EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN
Max Carl
On the road to Georgia
There's a hole in the ground
Where the passage to China
Is said to be found
Well they built this house around it
But they tore that house down-
Who said they could tear these houses down?
From a video arcade
In a corner shopping mall
In a phone booth imported from England
I made a local call
See my brother lost his job
In a big corporate cutback
They called it 'Black Friday' but he just had to laugh-
Two thousand years makes a whole lotta light
So many blistering days, moonswept nights
It's all an illusion if Buddha had it right
And he just might be right . . .
So wake up Mary, it's not the end
Everything old is new again
It's not that scary, you've got a friend
Everything old is new again
Well I knew if I wore these clothes long enough
They would come back in style
We've been steady on a course
Never stopped to check the miles
Down the Peachtree Parkway's pretty palisades
We go prancin', pitching pennies in our poetry parade
And all these new hippies come tripping past us again
With their tie-dye smiles, patchouli innocence
Like the snows of yesteryear come coolin' down my sins
They send me from my treadmill to oblivion
So wake up Mary, it's not the end
Everything old is new again
It's not that scary, you've got a friend
Everything old is new again
In Atlanta there's this boulevard called Martin Luther King
The souls preside above it and they make the traffic sing
They say forsake your weapons for the essence of love
Like a supernova sparkin' they keep shinin' on
Experience traces these lines on faces
And a soul like a flower is meant to bloom
What time erases the heart replaces
And I just want to lie in the sun and make serious love to you . . .
So wake up Mary, it's not the end
Everything old is new again
It's not that scary, you've got a friend
Everything old is new again
